It’s for old people! Well, people over 35 – as I’m one of ’em this makes me happy:
THE CAL Scribe Fiction Prize
Prize money increases to $15,000!
After the overwhelming success of the 2010 CAL Scribe Fiction Prize, Scribe Publications is thrilled to announce that the prize money for the CAL Scribe Fiction Prize 2011 will be increased to $15,000.
Once again, we are searching for the best unpublished manuscript by a writer aged 35 or over. We will be opening submissions from 1 August 2010 and the winner will receive $15,000 and a book contract from Scribe.
Entry forms will be available on our website from 15 July.
The inaugural winner of the CAL Scribe Fiction Prize, A Darker Music by Maris Morton, will be in bookstores everywhere this October. Last year’s shortlisted manuscripts (Meg Mundell’s Black Glass and Jane Sullivan’s Little People) will be published by Scribe in 2011.
About the prize
In August 2009, we launched the CAL Scribe Fiction Prize for an unpublished manuscript by an Australian writer aged 35 and over, regardless of publication history. Many writers only find the time and have acquired the life experience to write fiction later in life. This prize recognises that there are many examples of late bloomers when it comes to writers, certainly in terms of getting published. Youth is already celebrated in so many ways, and Scribe wants to support writers who are emerging or still going strong in their prime.
It is Scribe’s intention that this prize will raise the profile of Australian fiction, demonstrate our commitment to local authors, and find a wonderful new voice and/or novel.
Scribe gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the CAL Cultural Fund.
