QWC interviews Bernadette Foley of Hachette Australia about What Publishers Want.
You’ve been a part of the QWC/Hachette Manuscript Development Program since 2008. Tell us about the growth of the program and its successes from your perspective.
I am delighted to say that in my opinion the program has been a great success. People who have taken part in it have been published by Hachette Australia and other companies. Also, I believe that the structured talks and the informal interaction during the four or five days of the writing retreats have given participants a fuller understanding of the publishing process and the book industry. We feel that we have helped to break down some of the myths about publishing. We at Hachette hope that the program will continue in the future, and we very much look forward to meeting and working with more new writers.
