If you are asking for a favour, introducing yourself to someone higher up the writerly foodchain, or trying to build a ‘mutually helpful relationship’ with a fellow writer, here’s a tip: don’t irritate the crap out of that person.
If they don’t wish to accept your friend request (on the grounds that they use FB for their genuine friends and are not looking for any new ones), decline to crit your story, don’t respond to your overly familiar emails or comments, or simply don’t want to meet you for coffee or be your new best friend, then kindly be gracious.
Be sane. Don’t be rude. The person you irritate today may be in a position to make your life difficult tomorrow. Do try to show some wisdom.
