Curse of the Spellmans and A Very Nice Bar

homecover-curseLast night the universe was kind to me (and no, in case you’re wondering, it isn’t always – then again, maybe I don’t always deserve it). I was invited (courtesy of lovely Ron at Pulp Fiction Books) along to a book launch party for US author Lisa Lutz, she of The Spellman Files, Curse of the Spellmans and Revenge of the Spellmans (and the fourth book in the series has just gone off to the publisher).

What can I say? The Zuri Bar in Brisneyland was superb! Admittedly, I have a fondness for turn-of-the-century French bordello decore. The company was fabulous. The author herself was wonderful – funny, smart, generous and humble (yep, goes to the top of the Author 101 class with Richard Morgan).

The Spellman books are very well written, hilarious, clever and engaging (a bit like the author really :-)). Go here http://lisalutz.com/ for more info. Lisa is appearing at the Melbourne Writers Festival next week, so if you’re close by I’d recommend catching her on a panel or at some of her signings.
