Hello, GenreCon!

And so there is this, GenreCon, which is an initiative of the Australian Writer’s Marketplace, and is being shaped and force into submission by Peter M. Ball’s organisational skills. It’s running from 2-4 November this year in Sydney.

What is it precisely?

GenreCon is a three-day convention for Australian fans and professionals working within the fields of romance, mystery, science fiction, crime, fantasy, horror, thrillers, and more. One part party, one part celebration, one part professional development: GenreCon is the place to be if you’re an aspiring or established writer with a penchant for the types of fiction that get relegated to their own corner of the bookstore.

Hmm. I love the idea of a cross-genre convention. About time. Poor bloody Peter, though!

Regretfully, there’s not a hope I can make this one. Will it be annual? Or just a one-off?

  2. Angela says:

I believe it will depend on funding.

No poor me on my front. Organising cons is an awesome dayjob, far better than doing office works for fascists (aka my old dayjob of doom).

The plan is to make GenreCon a regular thing that relocates, but we’re not sure of the schedule yet. Early indications seem to suggest people like the idea of the con, though, which probably counts as a good sign…
