Yes, I’m excited about being shortlisted. It’s very nice to be on the list. But it won’t make me a better or worse writer if I win or lose. It’s jam, but it’s not necessary to my writing or how I feel about myself. Similarly, if you weren’t shortlisted, it doesn’t make you a better or worse writer – it’s reflective of the judges’ tastes as much as anything … so, don’t get depressed, okay?
